Changing Europe for the Better: the Role of Social Entrepreneurship

The most important European initiative to support social entrepreneurs is the Social Business Initiative (SBI). The aim of the SBI is to boost both the debate over innovative ways of doing business and public interventions that best suit the purpose of creating a favourable eco-system for social enterprises. La programmazione FSE 2014-2020 riserva grande rilevanza al sostegno al lavoro autonomo. Questa scelta è condivisibile, ma le Regioni italiane dovrebbero puntare più decisamente sulla promozione di startups sociali e ridefinire approcci e metodi utilizzati per sostenere la creazione di impresa, puntando su approccio lean start-up, Business Model Canvas e Design-driven innovation.

Il progetto “Lazio Idee” della Regione Lazio è una autentica best practice per valorizzare il principio di partenariato nella programmazione 2014-2020 del FSE. La Regione, nei prossimi anni, dovrebbe agire sinergicamente con gli Enti Locali per diffondere ulteriormente e far radicare anche su scala locale l’approccio “citizen driven” nella definizione delle politiche pubbliche. Questo anche per promuovere la priorità trasversale del FSE “Social innovation”.

The article gives an account of the much appreciated initiatives that the European Commission is carrying out to pursue the following objectives: (i) to find new ways of addressing old and new social problems (“social innovation”); (ii) to sustain the start up and the development of social enterprises, because they could be an important lever for combining objectives of economic recovery and social inclusion.
